Europe’s best-value holiday destination has been revealed, and it offers stunning historic landmarks, cheap hotels and pints of beer that cost as little as £2.41

The cheapest holiday destination in Europe has been revealed – and a pint in its beautiful historic city centre will only set you back £2.41.

Experts at Flight Hacks drew up a list of the top ten cheapest destinations in Europe based on the average cost of flights from any London Airport, as well as food and hotel prices. Boasting the top spot on the list, Bucharest in Romania was found to be Europe’s best-value holiday destination – beating other budget favourites, including Poland and Turkey.




In Bucharest, the average cost per day sits at around £215.52, with the Romanian capital having the cheapest average hotel prices of all European destinations at just £86.72, the Daily Express reports.

What is there to do in Bucharest?

Located in Southern Romania, Bucharest, the countries capital, is known for its fusion of historical and modern architecture, vibrant arts scene, and stunning Palace of the Parliament. The historic city was ruled by Vlad The Impaler before he made Bucharest his capital in 1459. Its population sits at around 1.83 million, and its early 20th-century architecture has dubbed it “Little Paris”.

The best thing to do in Bucharest, according to Tripadvisor, is to visit the Stavropoleos Monastery. The magnificent 18th century Orthodox Church boasts a rating of 4.5 and is sure to be a hit with history lovers. It was built in 1724 and remains one of Bucharest’s oldest.

One visitor, posting to Tripadvisor said the church was “beautiful” in one of its many 5-star reviews. A user said: “What I loved most was the quiet and cosy atmosphere of the place, even if this architectural beauty is located in the middle of Bucharest, in the most crowded place.”

Another commented: “One of my favourite places in Bucharest! Amazing monastery is full of peace and harmony. I recommend visiting it Saturday and Sunday at 6pm and to listen to the prayers.” A fourth added: “Standing inside this monastery, takes your breath away. The walls and high ceilings adorned with beautiful religious artwork, it hard to put to words just how beautiful it really is.”
