US employment: Economists forecast the US economy to have added 243,000 jobs in April, down from 303,000 added in March. The unemployment rate is expected to remain unchanged at 3.8 per cent.

ISM services index: Activity in the US services sector is expected to have remained in expansion territory in April, ticking up to a reading of 52 from 51.4 in March, according to economists polled by LSEG.

Fedspeak: Chicago Fed president Austan Goolsbee will participate in a panel discussion about monetary policy at a conference hosted by Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.

Berkshire Hathaway: Investors will be keen to hear Warren Buffett’s latest thoughts on the economy as the investment company holds its annual meeting on Saturday in Omaha, Nebraska. It will be the first without vice-chair Charlie Munger, who died last year. The company will also report first-quarter results.
