FIM Speedway – News – WBD SPORTS EUROPE AWARDED ISO20121 FOR DELIVERING SUSTAINABLE SPEEDWAY

Must read

FIM Speedway global promoter Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe has achieved a prestigious ISO20121 certification as the group strives to deliver sustainable speedway.

The ISO20121 certification approves the structured framework that sees sustainability integrated into every aspect of FIM Speedway event management practices, with the aim of reducing the environmental and social impact of the large-scale international events that are promoted while maintaining their economic viability.

Along with enhancing social inclusion and ensuring economic viability for all stakeholders involved in FIM Speedway events, the ISO20121 certification framework includes setting long-term goals, implementing sustainable practices, measuring performance and continually improving the internal and external processes of delivering events.

Key elements and initiatives organised and implemented during the 2023 FIM Speedway season included encouraging the FIM Speedway Youth World Cup (SGP4) class of 2023 to consider the values they can learn from competitive sport as part of a training and competition weekend for riders aged 11-13.

FIM Speedway also continued its relationship with Blood Bikes Wales, charity partner for the 2023 FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Cardiff on September 2.

The Welsh charity played an integral part in the event fanzone in Cardiff City Centre, raising over £2,000 for the organisation and promoting its vital role in supporting the NHS, making crucial deliveries, including vital blood supplies and samples, plasma, donor milk for specialist baby units and essential medication between Wales’ various hospitals.

FIM Speedway continues to support and promote the work of the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund, a UK-based charity that assists riders temporarily or permanently sidelined by speedway injuries with treatment and living costs.

Former GB star Chris Morton completed Mort’s Mighty Mission, a cycle ride from Manchester to Cardiff, by crossing the Principality Stadium finish line as he raised £15,000 for the charity.

The SRBF also had a presence in the Cardiff fanzone and the opportunity to raise further funds. FIMSpeedway.com also carries coverage of their work throughout the year, including promotional articles for their annual Ben Fund Bonanza fundraising event.

WBD Sports Europe also rewarded charity workers and supported those who benefit from their efforts by offering complimentary and discounted tickets for the FIM British Speedway GP.

Recipients of the ticket offer included volunteers and beneficiaries from Cardiff Third Sector Council, an organisation that works with the Welsh Government and Wales Council for Volunteer Action to support the work of volunteer groups and organisations across Cardiff to make themselves sustainable and meet the needs of their communities.

The invitation was also extended to Race Equality First, a charity that fights racial inequality in Wales and provides support, advice, leadership and an influential voice for people who face discrimination, harassment, hate crimes and disadvantage. Other local Welsh NGOs and charities were also welcomed at the event.

As part of maintaining the ISO20121 certification, Warner Bros. Discovery Sports will undergo a surveillance audit in 2024. This audit is a critical component of the certification process, ensuring ongoing compliance with ISO20121 standards and continuous improvement in its sustainable event management practices.

WBD Sports Europe begins its third season as FIM Speedway global promoter in 2024, and racing gets underway with the FIM Speedway GP of Croatia in Donji Kraljevec on April 27.
