The Sport Integrity Week to fight the manipulation of sports competitions is being held in Athens from 27 November to 1 December. This first-ever joint venture is co-organised by the Council of Europe, the International Olympic Committee, INTERPOL, UEFA, the Greek National Platform for Sport Integrity (EPATHLA), the Hellenic Football Federation (HFF) and hosted by the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC), to enable an in-depth dive into recent trends, best practices, and challenges in addressing sport competitions’ manipulation.

The event was opened by the Deputy Minister of Sports, Yannis Vroutsis, by the Minister of Citizen Protection, Yannis Economou, and the President of the HOC, Spyros Capralos and the President of the HFF, Panagiotis Baltakos.

The kick-start session  of this rich week of activities also included, from the athletes’ side, the unique perspectives on match-fixing of  former international footballer Takis Fyssas and former international basketball player Kostas Tsartsaris.

This Sport Integrity week also features dedicated regional seminars by the IOC and INTERPOL for representatives of eight countries (Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, Israel, Malta, Romania, Türkiye) and by UEFA and HFF for football stakeholders.

Finally, the 7th meeting of the Follow-up Committee of the Macolin Convention will also take place in the framework of the Sport Integrity Week on 29-30 November, chaired by the Secretary General and Head of EPATHLA, George Mavrotas. This meeting will gather representatives of the 9 States Parties to the Macolin Convention, welcoming the first participation of France, as well as observers to the Committee (Interpol, IOC, FIFA, UEFA and ULIS). The main topics on the agenda of this 7th meeting are: data protection, reasonable betting, links to money laundering, and the monitoring of the implementation of the Macolin Convention.
