NEW DELHI: WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels provided insights into the current status of plans for WWE NXT Europe, shedding light on the company’s commitment to the brand despite uncertainties.

The announcement of WWE NXT Europe came in August 2022, following the closure of NXT UK. Originally slated for a 2023 launch, renowned wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer later suggested a potential delay to 2024.

Notably, there were discussions hinting that NXT Europe could have been centered around the charismatic Will Ospreay, as WWE sought to attract the accomplished wrestler. However, Ospreay shocked the wrestling world by signing with AEW in November 2023, set to join the promotion after the conclusion of his NJPW contract in early 2024.

During the media call, Shawn Michaels expressed WWE’s unwavering support for NXT Europe, emphasizing the company’s commitment to the brand. Despite the affirmation, Michaels did not unveil any confirmed plans for upcoming shows or provide insights into the roster composition. Describing the project as being in the “organizational stage,” Michaels assured fans that developments are underway.

Furthermore, Michaels highlighted WWE’s dedication to the European market, citing the upcoming May 4 Backlash event in France and the August 31 Bash in Berlin as evidence of the company’s commitment to hosting events in Europe. The Bash in Berlin is particularly significant as it marks the first major WWE Pay-Per-View to take place in Germany.

With Backlash on May 4, WWE continues its global outreach, marking the second consecutive year that the event will be held outside of the United States. Last year’s Backlash took place in Puerto Rico, emphasizing WWE’s efforts to expand its footprint and engage with the international fanbase.
