Italy’s pretty seaside city named ‘coffee capital’ and Europe’s most underrated

Must read

As summer approaches, Britons across the country will be booking their trips abroad.

Many will be looking to book city breaks in Europe, but while many will be headed for popular destinations across the continent, one city has been touted as Europe’s most underrated location.

Italian cities such as Rome and Milan will be welcoming millions of tourists this summer, but CelebrityCrusies.com says Trieste is a lesser-known destination that provides the charm and character tourists look for when they head to Italy.

The city is located east of Venice, tucked away by the border with Slovenia.

Its main attractions include the largest seaside piazza in Europe, the Piazza Unita d’Italia, and the city’s main square which boasts beautiful architecture.

Other things to do include a visit to Faro della Vittoria, a lighthouse built in the 1850s that towers over the Gulf of Trieste.

The Museo Revoltella provides something different for art enthusiasts, displaying modern pieces at the venue founded by the city’s famous figure Baron Pasquale Revoltella.

The city has been nicknamed the “coffee capital”, meaning you could just decide to relax at a cafe and sample some of Italy’s finest food and drink.

One TripAdvisor reviewer said of the city: “A beautiful place both during the day and at night but it never feels crowded or overrun. Simply stunning.”

The Financial Times recently said the city was “the comeback kid” with the number of tourists visiting Triesto on the rise.

The city has an airport that is a 40-minute car journey outside of the city centre.

Flights in August can be snagged for as little as £132.
