The partnership aims to set up a technology centre for Danisi Engineering and strengthen its software engineering and IT resources in India, while giving Greaves Technologies an opportunity to expand into the European market.
Bengaluru-based Greaves Technologies, which is a full-service engineering and R&D, and digital services solutions provider, and part of the highly-diversified Greaves Cotton Group, has partnered with Italy’s Danisi Engineering that specialises in offering vehicle engineering and prototyping solutions for the automotive industry.
The alliance aims to leverage Greaves Technologies’ India presence to build and grow IT and software engineering capabilities, as well as capacities for Danisi Engineering in India, as well as offer Greaves Technologies opportunities to expand into the European market where Ferrari, and Fiat are Danisi’s key customers.
While Greaves Technologies offers mechanical, system design, and virtual engineering services to its key clients – Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, and Stellantis India – the company aims to integrate both IT and OT competencies with an intend to offer good value to its automotive customers as they embark on their digital journeys and reduce their time to market.
Greaves Technologies operates a ‘Variant Factory’ for DICV in Chennai, while has offshore development centres for Stellantis in Hyderabad and Chennai, from where it undertakes work on global projects, including those for the US, Europe, and Asian countries.
According to Suman Nelluri, Executive Director, Greaves Technologies, “Greaves Technologies is an exclusive partner for DICV for variant engineering of their products with our 160-member team and a specialised 30-member team for the German OEM’s Variant Factory. Companies like Greaves Engineering, Greaves Electric Mobility are also part of our key clientele.”
“While design engineering, right from simple designs to reverse engineering and CFD simulations are our core competencies, we aim to converge IT and OT capabilities with our partnership with Danisi Engineering,” Nelluri said.
Based in Turin, Italy, Danisi Engineering’s core strengths lie on the fronts of vehicle dynamics, simulation, as well as architecture design, and as part of the partnership, Greaves Technologies will help building a global competency centre for Danisi Engineering in India. “Greaves brings trust, and brand value, and we will expand their R&D activities, as well as foster development of new competencies,” he added.
“Given the talent pool available in India, we are confident to ramp up Danisi Engineering’s operations quickly. It is a long-term project and we have started taking the early steps,” he added.
While the two companies were in talks since July, they etched the agreement in November 2023, and have not struck any overarching commercial agreement. “Each engineering project will come with its individual commercial agreement as the scope of investment will be different depending upon the project requirements,” Nelluri explained.
With its US presence, Greaves Technologies also aims the partnership to target emerging large bus companies, or Recreational Vehicle (RV) manufacturers in the US market, that is seeing the foray of several new players into electrification, and the growing demand for intensive R&D capabilities. On the other hand, with Danisi Engineering’s strong European hold, Greaves Technologies aims to benefit from the alliance and open a technology office in Europe soon. “Over the next five years, we want to focus on the niche areas of system design, and engineering, and leverage each other’s competencies to win large global projects, and go to market together,” Nelluri signed off.
