New Border Force rules for British travellers visiting the European Union mean Brits face being TRACKED. The EES system – as it has been referred to – was previously scheduled by Brussels to go live in the European Union in 2022.
It is due to launch in October this year but industry sources believe it will be postponed until at least 2025 amid delays to the development of an app to smooth the process. The scheme will require holidaymakers to undergo biometric checks, meaning there could be huge tailbacks at ports such as Dover.
The EES system will apply when entering 25 EU countries and four non-EU countries that are part of the bloc’s border-free Schengen area. The system will apply to all nationals of countries that are not in the EU or Schengen when travelling to the 29 countries.
Responding to the new scheme, a Brit sniped: “Brexit voters should be rejoicing the fact that the EU take brexit seriously and are implementing the infrastructure that makes us a third country. We can now focus on cheap unchecked imports and running down British farming and fishing as planned.”
A second said: “This is for ALL non-EU citizens entering the EU , not just British people, so stop pretending it has anything to do with Brexit revenge, it doesn’t. It was the UK that actually wanted these things originally .
“I also missed the story where the border checks at the UK border for foods from the EU have yet again been delayed .. so taking control of our border is still not happening in that regard 4 years since we actually left the EU. The EU implemented their checks required by our agreement on 1st January 2020.”
And another chipped in to say: “Do any of the computer systems work?” Another said: “Just been to Vietnam and Thailand, both have fingerprint and photo. It takes no time at all ,you do it as they stamp your passport”
