European aviation group IAG has announced new CEOs for its Spanish carriers Iberia and Vueling as part of a reshuffle of its senior management team.

Marco Sansavini, who is currently CEO of Vueling, has been appointed as Iberia’s new CEO and chairman from the beginning of April, with Iberia’s interim CEO Fernando Candela stepping down from the role he has held since May 2023 but continuing as CEO of IAG’s low-cost subsidiary LEVEL.

Meanwhile IAG’s chief people, corporate affairs and sustainability officer Carolina Martinoli will take over as the new CEO of Vueling.

IAG’s CEO Luis Gallego said: “It is a testament to the strength of the talent and experience of IAG’s senior management that we have been able to make these appointments internally, from leaders already on the management committee.

“Both Marco and Carolina have already made a significant impact in IAG’s transformation and I know that they will continue to deliver results in their new positions.

“I would like to pay particular tribute to Fernando Candela who stepped in to take leadership of Iberia in May 2023, after having set up the group-wide transformation programme.”

Gallego made the announcement as IAG revealed it had more than doubled its profit during 2023 compared with the previous year.

“Our Spanish businesses are both performing very well and are positioned to take advantage of growing traffic to Latin America from Europe as well as the valuable intra-European aviation market,” added Gallego.
