The route will start on December 21, 2024 and run through to April 5 next year.

The Jet2 route is expected to open up resorts in and around the Dolomites, including Val di Fassa, Madonna di Campiglio and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

The airline already flies to established ski destinations such as Chambery, Geneva, Grenoble, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Lyon and Turin.

Chief Executive Steve Heapy said: ” We are experiencing strong demand from skiers and snowboarders clamouring to book the best of the action for Winter 24/25 and our ski flights are selling very well.

“With perfectly timed flights, we are giving skiers access to the best ski resorts across Europe, and we know our new ski services to Verona, along with those already on sale, will be a huge hit with snow sports enthusiasts next winter.”

The budget airline and tour operator started its new route between Edinburgh and Malta earlier this week, on May 1.

It’s the first time the airline has linked the two airports, with the route launched due to great demand.

The service will run weekly, every Wednesday throughout summer 2024, until October 30, opening up a new holiday destination for those flying from Edinburgh.

The airline said that holidaymakers in Scotland can now explore Malta’s “history packed towns and blissful marinas” as well as discovering “the hidden treasures and Italian-inspired cuisine”.

Jet2 also stated that holidaymakers could also head over to Gozo to find “centuries-old architecture, brilliant beaches and shimmering lagoons”.

Little-known UK Islands to visit

The direct route from Edinburgh adds to the nine other Jet2 routes to Malta, from airports across the United Kingdom.

A Jet2 flight from Glasgow had to be diverted after a disruptive passenger allegedly attacked crew and other travellers.

The aircraft left Glasgow shortly before 4pm on Wednesday to take holidaymakers to Tenerife.

But chaos unfolded mid-air after a passenger, believed to be drunk, allegedly erupted into violence.

The plane had to be diverted to Shannon Airport in Ireland, where cops rushed to the aircraft.

Footage from onboard the aircraft allegedly shows the man being dragged off the plane.
