After announcing that they were opening disciplinary proceedings against Serbia on Monday, UEFA have confirmed that they have fined them for breaking two rules against England
UEFA have announced that the Serbian Football Assocation have been €14,500 after two rules were broken in their Euro 2024 loss against England.
Serbia were beaten 1-0 by the Three Lions in their Group C opener on Sunday night courtesy of a first-half header from Jude Bellingham. Less than 24 hours later it was announced that UEFA had opened disciplinary proceedings against them.
A statement released on Monday read: “Disciplinary proceedings have been instigated in accordance with Article 55 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR) following the UEFA European Championship group stage match between Serbia and England (0-1) played on 16 June 2024 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
“Charges against Football Association of Serbia (FSS): Throwing of objects, Art. 16(2)(b) DR, Transmitting a provocative message unfit for a sports event, Art. 16(2)(e) DR.
“The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) will decide on the matter in due course. Furthermore, an UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector will conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding alleged discriminatory behaviour.”
And it was confirmed on Wednesday night that UEFA had fined the Serbian Football Association €4,500 for the “throwing of objects” and a further €10,000 for “transmitting a provocative message not fit for a sports event”.
Albania were also issued with fines following their match against Italy, which they lost 2-1. A large pyro was set off by Albanian fans after Nedim Bejrami fired them into a shock lead just seconds after kick-off.
That, and a number of other issues, led to fines. In total, the Albanian Football Association were fined €37,375 with a sanction of €10,000 imposed for the “lighting of fireworks”.
The Albanian Football Association were fined a further €12,375 for the “throwing of objects”, €5,000 for a “pitch invasion” and another €10,000 for “transmitting provocative messages not fit for a sports event”.
