Ukraine v Belgium LIVE: Result and reaction from Group E at Euro 2024

As Belgium’s group-stage campaign came to an end at Euro 2024, there was only one attribute as evident as their innate collective talent: their dependency on Kevin De Bruyne, a player who is not even at his best right now.

Belgium will face France in the last 16 of Euro 2024 following a 0-0 draw with Ukraine, who crashed out of the tournament.

The Red Devils limped through Group E, finishing second behind Romania.

That means they will meet France next as Ukraine exited on goal difference and become the first team to depart the extended European Championship at the group stage with four points.

A largely uneventful first half produced a brilliant opportunity early on for Romelu Lukaku, with his scuffed effort Belgium’s only real opening in the first 45.

But on balance Ukraine created more than the Red Devils in the opening period, with Yaremchuk and Sudakov causing problems in the Belgium defence.

Gareth Southgate’s team toiled in all three matches, struggling to create chances as they edged Serbia 1-0, drew 1-1 with Denmark and then endured a drab 0-0 stalemate with Slovenia in their final game.

It was enough to win the group, however, mainly because all three matches not involving England ended in draws.

Slovakia are through as one of the best third-placed sides and – along with the Netherlands – are now a possible last-16 opponent for England.

Who the Three Lions will play depends on the results in Group F’s matches.

Romania meanwhile have reached the knockout rounds of a European Championship for the first time since 2000 having finished top of the group.

The Ukranian players are still on the pitch and are acknowleding their fans and travelling supporters.

Romania vs Slovakia ended in a 1-1 draw which means that sharing the points with Belgium isn’t enough to take them through. They just needed a goal and instead become the first team wot secure four points and fail to get out of the group.

De Bruyne turns over the ball and slips it Lukaku. He carries it into the box and wins a corner with a deflected pull back.
