Sports Ministry approves Neeraj Chopra’s two-month training in Europe with coach and physio – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Sports Ministry has approved a comprehensive training plan for Olympic and world champion Neeraj Chopra, along with other elite athletes, as part of their preparation for the upcoming Paris Games. The objective is to provide the necessary support and resources to enhance their performance and increase their chances of success at the highest level.

The reigning Olympic and world champion in javelin throw will undergo a 60-day training stint in Europe from May 29 to July 28. He will be accompanied by his coach Klaus Bartonietz and physiotherapist Ishaan Marwaha.

The Ministry’s Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) has agreed to cover the expenses related to airfare, accommodation, meals, medical insurance, local transport, and out-of-pocket allowances under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS).

Additionally, the MOC has approved the proposal of Asian Games gold medalist Vinesh Phogat to include strength and conditioning coach Wayne Patrick Lombard for an international training camp in Hungary from June 10 to 21.

Vinesh, who will compete in the 50kg division in Paris, will also participate in the United World Wrestling 2nd Ranking Series in Budapest from June 6 to 9. The MOC has agreed to support Lombard’s expenses, including airfare, visa fees, board and lodging, and local transport in Hungary.

The MOC has also cleared Vinesh’s proposal for support to compete in the Grand Prix of Spain from July 5 to 7 in Madrid. Her support team will include a physiotherapist, a sparring partner, and a coach.

Long jumper Shaili Singh’s proposal to extend her training camp in Europe until June 23 has been approved. She will train in Lisbon, Paris, Athens, and Geneva alongside coach Bobby George.

The MOC has also granted requests from shotgun shooters Rajeshwari Kumari and Maheshwari Chauhan to take their personal coaches to the training camp in Italy in June. Rajeshwari’s coach David Kostelecky will accompany her to the ISSF World Cup in Lonato from June 1 to 14, while Maheshwari’s coach Riccardo Fillipelli will train her from May 31 to June 11. Maheshwari will also participate in the Lonato World Cup from June 12 to 19.

Furthermore, the MOC has approved a request from badminton player HS Prannoy for financial assistance to engage a trainer, Rohan George Mathews, on a full-time basis from June 20 to July 22 in Hyderabad. Prannoy will also have access to a center that provides recovery products, including Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy and Red Light therapy.

The proposals of athletes such as Maisnam Meiraba, Anupama Upadhyaya (archery), Atanu Das (archery), and Vishnu Sarvanan (sailing) for support to compete in international tournaments and training camps have also been approved. Additionally, the MOC has granted a request from Para powerlifter Ashok to secure a wheelchair.
