England came from a goal down to beat the Netherlands 2-1 in Dortmund after substitute Ollie Watkins scored the winner in the 90th minute to leave the Dutch devastated
It’s be England against Spain in the Euro 2024 final after the Three Lions’ dramatic victory over the Netherlands.
After falling a goal down to Xavi Simons’ superb strike early on, England levelled through Harry Kane’s fortunate penalty, before Watkins came off the bench to win it late on.
The Three Lions will now face Spain in the Berlin final on Sunday, following La Roja’s impressive comeback victory over France in their Munich semi-final on Tuesday evening. The match will kick off at 8pm GMT and will be broadcast on both BBC and ITV.
France took an early lead in the ninth minute when Kylian Mbappe’s cross was headed into the net by forward Randal Kolo Muani. However, Spain quickly retaliated and took the lead just 16 minutes later.
Youngster Lamine Yamal, at only 16 years old, scored a remarkable equaliser from the edge of the box, making him the youngest goalscorer in both European Championships and World Cup history. Dani Olmo then secured Spain’s lead with a deft finish, aided by a deflection off French defender Jules Kounde.
Spain managed to maintain their lead, securing their place in their first major tournament final since Euro 2012. That victory marked a continuation of their incredible run of three consecutive tournament wins at Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup.
Luis de la Fuente, Spain’s boss, said: “We are very happy, the happiness was already great to get here but now it is much greater. I feel a lot of pride for these players, they are exceptional, they know how to play and read the games in an extraordinary way.
“We have returned Spanish football to where it belongs. We have to value what these players are doing. We want to continue making history, we don’t want to relax, we have to stay focused to face the final in Berlin.”
Commenting on the potential final opponents, De la Fuente stated: “It doesn’t matter who the opponent is, we’ve already seen the journey we’ve had in this European Championship. They are two great rivals and we are waiting for them with open arms. We want to win the final.”
