Watch epic moment The Killers hit fans with Mr Brightside during England win

Must read

Fans celebrated wildly after The Killers paused their London gig to watch the final moments of England’s win over the Netherlands.

The US rock band followed the closing minutes of the game before launching into their huge hit song ‘Mr Brightside’ to the jubilation of 20,000 fans packed into the O2 Arena.

Fans were quick to post the footage on social media in what was described as a ‘goosebump’ moment that even saw the band become embroiled in the celebrations.

With England seconds away from booking their place in Sunday’s final, the lights were turned down and the TV commentary was blasted out over the speakers with the game beamed onto the screen behind the stage.

At the final whistle, the crowd erupted as red and white streamers were fired from the stage.

The band then topped it off by playing the hit song Mr Brightside, creating a moment fans in attendance will never forget. “Tonight we played for England,” the group’s Twitter account later posted.

Ollie Watkins’ added-time winner booked England’s spot in the Euro 2024 final against Spain in Berlin.

The Three Lions put in their best display of the tournament after falling behind after just six minutes thanks to a superb strike from Xavi Simons.

Gareth Southgate’s men hit back through Harry Kane’s penalty and were unlucky not to lead at the interval when Phil Foden’s brilliant curler struck the post.

A tense second half which was arguably shaded by the Dutch, saw both sides have chances to win the game.

After Bukayo Saka saw his effort ruled out for office, substitute Watkins made no mistake to fire England into a second-successive European Championship final.

Watkins had played just 20 minutes of football for England before his entrance in Dortmund and admitted that despite a lack of game time, he felt he could make an impact if handed his chance.

“I’ve been waiting for that moment for weeks,” Watkins told ITV. “It’s taken a lot of hard work to get to where I am today. I’m delighted.

“I swear on my life that I said to Cole Palmer that he’s going to set me up today and I’m going to score. It’s the best feeling ever.

“I’m lost for words, really,” Watkins continued. “When you score there are emotions that come through your body but this is a different feeling.

“It was slow motion when I was running over to the boys and celebrating.

“I said to Cole we were both going to get on the pitch and he was going to set me up at half-time. It happened. I manifested it.

“As soon as he turned I knew to make the move. You don’t get that opportunity very often. I had to be greedy.

“I’ve seen it go in the bottom corner. I don’t think I’ve hit the ball that sweet before in such a special moment.”
