IWBF Europe’s Euro Cup Charges Into Second Weekend

The second weekend of IWBF Europe’s Euro Cup promises an exhilarating display of wheelchair basketball action, with the Champions Cup Quarter Finals and Euro Cup 2 & 3 preliminary rounds taking center stage. Teams from 10 countries will vie for supremacy in five countries from Friday 8 March to Sunday 10 March.

Champions Cup Quarter Finals

In the highly anticipated Champions Cup Quarter Finals, eight top teams are vying for supremacy, split into two groups. Group A features a powerhouse lineup including the host RSB Thuringia Bulls (GER), Santo Stefano KOS Group (Italy), CD Ilunion (Spain), and Galatasaray S.K (Turkey). Meanwhile, defending champions BSR Amiab Albacete (Spain) headline Group B alongside GSD Porto Torres (Italy), RSV Lahn Dill (Germany), and Bidaideak Bilbao BSR (Spain). The top two teams from each group will advance to the finals weekend in May, setting the stage for intense competition.

Simultaneously, Euro Cup 2 and 3 Prelims will unfold in five different countries across Europe.

Euro Cup 2 Preliminary Round

In Euro Cup 2 Group A, the hosting responsibilities lie with Yalova Ortopedikler Spor Kulübü in Turkey, featuring Only Friends Rolstoelbasketbal (Netherlands), PDM Treviso (Italy), ASD Handicap Sport Varese (Italy), and 8TF FlinkStones Graz (Austria).

Euro Cup 2 Group B, on the other hand, will witness the battles unfold at the Palaix des Sports Chemin Bonnassieux of Les Aigles du Velay in France. The host will accommodate competitive matchups involving SSD Santa Lucia Basket Roma (Italy), Meylan Grenoble Handibasket (France), TSK Rehab Merkezi Engelliler Spor Kulübü (Turkey), and Orto-Medico Scyzory Kielce (Poland).

Securing the top positions in each group becomes pivotal, as it guarantees a coveted spot in the Euro Cup 2 Finals, while teams finishing in the second place earn a valuable ticket to compete in the Euro Cup 3 Finals.

Euro Cup 3 Preliminary Round

Euro Cup 3 will feature three exciting groups. Group A will be hosted by ASD Reggio Calabria Basket in Carrozzina (Italy), welcoming Iberconsa Amfiv (Spain), LUC Lille Handibasket (France), Elan Chalon Basket Fauteuil (France), and KKTC Tekerleklisandalye Vakiflar (Turkey).

In Group B,  host UCAM Murcia BSR, who will make their Euro Cup 3 debut, competing against CAPSAAA-PARIS (France), KSS Mustang (Poland), Volpi Rosse Menarini Firenze-Basket in Carrozzina (Italy), and Panathinaikos Athletic Club (Greece).

Meanwhile, Group C will unfold in the German city of Munich, hosted by RBB München Iguanas. This group will see Hurricane 92 Basketball – Gennevilliers (France), SBS – Special Bergamo Sport (Italy), Gazisehir Gaziantep Sport Club (Turkey), and Plymouth Fusion Wheelchair Basketball (Great Britain) competing for the top spot and a chance to advance to the Euro Cup 3 Finals in April.
