Must read

Armenia on Friday officially recognized the state of Palestine, joining a growing list of countries amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza, terming the decision against “violence towards civilian populations.”

“Confirming its commitment to international law, equality of nations, sovereignty and peaceful coexistence, the Republic of Armenia recognises the State of Palestine,” said the Armenian government.

Meanwhile, Armenia criticized Israel’s military actions in Gaza, stating that it “deplores using civilian infrastructure as shields during armed conflicts and violence towards civilian populations.”

Additionally, it called for the release of civilians held captive by Hamas, saying it “joins the demands of international community on freeing them.”

Later, Israel’s foreign ministry summoned the Armenian ambassador following this decision.

Palestinian Authority official Hussein Al-Sheikh welcomed Armenia’s decision, calling it “a victory for right, justice, legitimacy and the struggle of our Palestinian people for liberation and independence.”
