NEW DELHI: A homeless man discovered a wallet with 2,000 euros on a train at Amsterdam station. Despite his situation, he decided to turn it to the police.

Hadjer Al-Ali, who has been without a home for a year and a half, came across the wallet while searching for empty plastic bottles to exchange for money at Amsterdam central station. The 33-year-old handed the wallet over to the authorities, which contained a significant sum of money but unfortunately lacked any identification or contact information for the owner.

Police commended Al-Ali’s integrity, stating, “Because we think that honesty should pay, he got a ‘silver thumb’ prize that we sometimes give to citizens and a gift voucher worth 50 euros.” If the money remains unclaimed after one year, it will be given to the finder.

In a video shared by local media outlet De Stentor, Al-Ali expressed his unwavering commitment to returning lost items, saying, “No matter what I find, I always give it back.” He also expressed hope that his act of kindness might lead to a positive change in his life, such as employment or housing opportunities.
