A Rose gets Europe talking

  • Model’s popularity puts focus on Style Week

Style Week Jamaica will set capital city Kingston ablaze with dazzling lights and glamorous supermodels from May 25-29. But while the multi-venue event has caught the interest of global media, it is Saint’s superstar Ashane Rose who is now the talking point of European media interest from London to Paris.

The Jamaican beauty is the star of the latest Zara TRF campaign and starred in an elaborately styled 10-page spread in a recent publication of Italian Elle.

Zara, the multi-billion-dollar Spanish-based fashion chain, unveiled the Jamaican teen a month ago as the female star for their young line-TRF.

The shoot was done in December in Spain with noted Vogue fashion photographer David Sims and power-stylist Beat Bollinger. Sims has worked consistently with the world’s best supermodels, including Gisele Bundchen and Naomi Campbell.

This puts Rose in a select group of fashion stars who book a major international campaign after their first season.

Her images can now be seen on storefronts and billboards across Europe and on zara.com and also on models.com‘s campaign database link.

Rose was the feature of a seven-page spread for Italian Elle. The shoot was done in Paris and featured Rose in leading brands such as Blumarine, Givenchy, Dolce and Gabanna, Emporio Armani and Yves St Laurent.

After her much-talked-about London Fashionweek Spring-Summer 2011 debut where Rose starred for eight top designers in that style capital, fashion power brokers have been clamouring for her appearance in assignments for editorial print.

Rose made her presence felt in London walking for the city’s brightest fashion stars including legendary Vivienne Westwood, Betty Jackson, Erdem, Felder Felder, House of Holland, Louise Gray, Unconditional, and Issa. Sharing the spotlight with some of fashion’s biggest models was a dream-maker but when she was selected to close the shows for Unconditional and Louise Gray (a position normally reserved for top models), her status as a most coveted new face in London was secured.

Rose will be a member of Saint International’s talent expected to rock the runways of Kingston for this year’s Style Week Jamaica.

The organisers have been hinting at the emergence of two new events. Those are still to be named.

The signature events are the International Men’s Collection on Friday, May 27 at Devon House Formal Gardens, the International Mecca Of Style on the following day, and Fashionblock on Knutsford Boulevard on Sunday, May 29.

A host of powerful brands have confirmed support for the event including The Gleaner, Scotiabank, JAMPRO, Wyndham Kingston Hotel, The Jamaica Tourist Board, Heart Trust/NTA, The Courtleigh Hotel, Fame 95 FM, TVJ, Kool FM, Nationwide Radio, Carreras, Devon House and Clear Sounds.
