Rising Team Bath MCTA Tennis Academy star Amelia Bissett has helped Great Britain reach the finals of this year’s U14 Tennis Europe Winter Cup – the sport’s premier indoor junior team competition.

The 13-year-old, who is coached by Eve Hughes and Craig Procter at the University of Bath Sports Training Village, won five of her six matches as Britain made impressive progress through the weekend’s qualifying group stages in Pecs, Hungary.

Bissett and her team-mates will now head to the Czech Republic for the finals on February 17-19.

The tone was set for the qualifying rounds when Bissett, who attends Ralph Allen School in Bath, won Britain’s opening match of the weekend – a 6-3 6-4 victory over Johanne Christine Svendsen. She then teamed up with Andrea Pineda to win the doubles 6-1 6-1 as Britain wrapped up a 3-0 victory over Denmark.

They followed that up with a 3-0 success against Spain, with Bissett beating Maria Berlanga Bandera 6-4 6-0 in the singles before taking the doubles 6-2 6-4 with Pineda.

The final match of the weekend against host nation Hungary saw Bissett suffer a 2-6 6-1 3-6 defeat to Natalia Szabanin in her singles match but she bounced back in the doubles, partnering Kylie Bilchev to a 7-5 6-2 victory which sealed a 2-1 win overall and ensured Britain progressed as group winners.
