Pat Nevin has offered his verdict on the suggestion former midfielder Cesc Fabregas would be a good option to replace Mauricio Pochettino.
Speaking to Spin Genie, he said: “Would someone like Xavi or Cesc Fabregas be a good option for Chelsea? It’s a great question, when I think about Cesc I don’t think his character is really right for the role.
“I think he’s far too strong a character and very much his own man and I’d suspect he’d want more control. He’s begun his coaching career very well at Como, got promoted, but I just don’t think he’d like it there at the beginning of his coaches career.
“Under different circumstances, it’d be brilliant to see him at Chelsea romantically, but we thought that with Frank Lampard. We quite often see dream scenarios turn into nightmare situations and from the outside, that’s a dream scenario but it may well not turn out to be in reality.
“There’s a million names being linked and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they got someone absolutely left field to surprise everyone. They could hire a manager based solely on data and who no-one has heard of, but I personally like the idea of someone who has more control and uses their deep football knowledge.”
