China aims for a mutually beneficial EV tariff agreement with the EU – Times of India

Must read

China is seeking a “mutually acceptable solution” with the EU on proposed tariffs for Chinese electric vehicles (EV) set to start on July 4, according to its commerce ministry. Beijing wants the EU to drop these plans, as reported by Chinese state media. However, the EU expects China to address “injurious subsidisation” of its EV industry during technical talks this week to reach a negotiated outcome.

China denies claims of unfair subsidies, attributing its EV industry’s growth to technological, market, and supply chain advantages. He Yadong, a commerce ministry spokesperson, stated that both sides are in close communication and intensifying consultations, expressing hope for a resolution to prevent escalating trade frictions that could harm China-EU economic relations.

Additionally, the commerce ministry is reviewing materials from China’s electronic products industry concerning an EU trade barriers investigation.
