Chinese New Year marks the start of a new lunar year, and for 2024 it falls on Saturday, February 10.

Liverpool hosts an annual celebration to highlight the rich and diverse community the city has built – the oldest Chinese community in Europe. While this year’s events remain under wraps, The Year of the Dragon is expected to be brought in with a programme of parades, family workshops, and firecracker displays.

‌

Across the UK and beyond many will begin their celebrations by spring cleaning. On Chinese New Year it is also common for people to give gifts of money, clothes and food.

Each Chinese zodiac sign is given a horoscope for the year ahead and while the Dragon is said to be lucky for many, some signs can expect a more turbulent year.

According to the South China Morning Post, you could be in for a bumpy ride if you were born in the following years: 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, or 2014.

That is, if your Chinese zodiac sign is the Dog, Dragon, Monkey, or Horse.

‌

The Dog

As the Dog is the Dragon’s enemy, you can expect your “resilience and loyalty to be tested” in 2024 and should “be prepared to encounter obstacles”. That said you should be able to remedy this if you are adept at maintaining balance where possible, and can “dare to share and ask for advice, or even just a shoulder to rest your wary head”.

The Dragon

While it is “your year”, and so you should be prepared to step into the limelight, it is “wise to be cautious… to avoid any setbacks”. SCMP’s horoscope adds: “Determination and a good sense of timing is required to navigate your way through the year” and suggests you “make health and safety a priority”.

The Monkey

Your luck is said to be in “dexterous hands in 2024” but you will need to overcome “frequent problems caused by competitive forces” and can “expect to be challenged on a personal level”. It adds: “Maintain your focus and motivation, as much will be expected of you. Know when to withdraw to protect yourself from ill advice.”

‌

The Horse

Those born in the Year of the Horse must “keep your eye on the finish post and work hard” in 2024. It will be a “fast-paced and energetic year” so you may be “easily distracted”.
