England take on Spain on Sunday night in the final of Euro 2024, with one fan so confident the Three Lions will win that he has got a tattoo commemorating the event
A confident England fan has decided to get a ‘Euro 2024 Winners’ tattoo before the final against Spain has even kicked-off.
The Three Lions booked their place in Sunday’s showdown with a dramatic win over the Netherlands on Wednesday. They are now eyeing their first piece of major silverware since winning the 1966 World Cup, 58 years ago.
It is the second successive European Championship final they have reached, having lost to Italy on penalties three years ago. The Three Lions’ opponents this time around are Spain, arguably the tournament’s most impressive team.
But Dan Thomas, a 29-year-old data consultant from Swindon, is certain Gareth Southgate‘s side will be lifting the trophy on Sunday night. Thomas has gone to the trouble of getting the Euros trophy and the words ‘England Euro 2024 Winners’ on his leg.
He spent two-and-a-half hours getting the etching on his left thigh at the Reign Barbers and Tattoos Parlour in his hometown on Thursday. The 29-year-old has insisted he has no regrets and has tipped England to win 2-1.
“I’m pretty confident. I think it will happen. I wouldn’t have got it done if I didn’t think it would happen. I think it will be close and I think it will be 1-1, but go to extra time. I think we’ll win 2-1 at extra time,” he told the Daily Mail.
“I went into the studio and just said it would be great to have (the tattoo). I was joking, but then I thought, ‘actually, no, I’m really confident I’m going to get it done’ so it was a spur of the moment, last minute thing.

“My tattooist has already told me that as a punishment if they do lose then he’s not going to cover it up for at least a year. They’re going to win so you may as well get it before the queues start on Monday.”
Thomas livestreamed the moment he got his tattoo on TikTok, attracting 42,00 viewers. He had considered getting a similar tattoo ahead of the Euro 2020 final and this time attoo artist Tinashe Chikerema ‘triple checked’ he wanted it before starting his work.
Boss Southgate meanwhile is refusing to downplay the challenge that faces his side in Berlin. But he is confident his side have learnt enough from their experience at Euro 2020 to drive them to the win.
“They’re excellent, I have a lot of admiration for them. They’ve been excellent with the ball and without the ball, they work as a team and without doubt deserve to be in the final. But we have to hope we are rising to the occasion each time,” he said.
“I’m very proud of the players and now we have a history-making possibility rather than a fear. I do think we feel different to 2021. This semi-final took a lot of emotion but there’s a real desire to make this count having walked past that trophy the last time.”
