Deutsche Bank promotes dealmaking duo to lead financial sponsors M&A in Europe

Deutsche Bank has promoted two senior bankers to co-lead its financial sponsors M&A team in Europe.

The German lender has appointed Alec Pratt and Simon Schneider as co-heads of Europe, the Middle East and Africa financial sponsors M&A, according to a memo seen by Financial News and confirmed by a bank spokesperson.

The duo will report into William Mansfield, the former Credit Suisse dealmaker who joined Deutsche to head its M&A unit in Emea last year.

Pratt joined Numis in 2019 from JPMorgan, where he spent 11 years doing deals focused on financial sponsor activity. Deutsche Bank acquired City broker Numis last year in a £410m deal, which bolstered its UK dealmaking team by hundreds of bankers.

Schneider, who is based in Frankfurt, joined Deutsche Bank in 2021 from Credit Suisse, where he had spent eight years. He will continue to focus on industrials clients within the DACH region in addition to his current role.

“Alec and Simon each have over 15 years of M&A experience in both public and private M&A,” the memo said.

Biliana Barboutova, who was previously co-head of Emea sponsors at Deutsche Bank, left to head up UBS’s coverage of private equity companies in the region. She will join the Swiss bank in July.

Deutsche has been bolstering its investment banking business over the past year as rivals have cut back. It hired around 50 senior dealmakers over the last 12 months, swooping on talent from Credit Suisse in the wake of its forced takeover by rival UBS.

“Last year we did the reverse of what people did. We actually hired people and completed on Deutsche Numis. Between our external hires and Deutsche Numis we feel very well-resourced,” Deutsche’s co-head of Emea investment banking, Henrik Johnsson told Financial News in an interview earlier in May.
