What is the latest England news?
Gareth Southgate’s England head off to Germany off the back off boos at Wembley after stumbling to defeat against Iceland.
Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson put Iceland into a shock early lead and lacklustre England could not find a response on a night when poor finishing prevented the night being any worse than 1-0.
Speaking to Channel 4 immediately post match, England midfielder Declan Rice said: “When we have that much of the ball, we have a couple of clear-cut chances and get beat 1-0 at home just before a Euros is not ideal. But there were a lot of positive performances.
“In the end it becomes a frustration game, you’re chasing your tail a little bit and get caught on the counter-attack. It’s not ideal we lost but there’s a lot of learning curves you can build on as a team.”
What does England’s new kit look like?
The build-up to England’s Euro 2024 challenge threatened to be overshadowed by a St George’s Cross kit row.
The furore was sparked by kit manufacturer Nike’s decision to alter the English national flag on the back of the new England shirt, swapping out the red and white for blue and purple and provoking apoplexy amongst traditionalists.
Even the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer waded in, suggesting Nike “should not mess” with the St George’s Cross.
