Ireland finally appoint new manager

England will face the Republic of Ireland in the Nations League later this year and while Gareth Southgate’s future is unknown, the Boys in Green know who their manager will be.

Ex-Iceland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson, who dumped England out of Euro 2016, has been appointed after Ireland spent nine months searching for a new head coach to succeed Stephen Kenny.

England under-21 manager and former ROI international Lee Carsley had been in the frame.

Deschamps’ future decided

French FA president Philippe Diallo has confirmed that manager Didier Deschamps WILL remain in charge of France until the 2026 World Cup.

France lost 2-1 in the other semi-final against Spain last night and Deschamps, who’s been in charge for 12 years, had been tipped to step down amid reports that Zinedine Zidane has been waiting for the job.

But after giving Deschamps a new long-term contract 18 months ago, FA chief Diallo has backed the 55-year-old ahead of the World Cup in North America.

He told L’Equipe: “Deschamps has a contract and he’s achieved the sporting objective that was set for him. Didier will continue his mission.:
