Euro 2024: England fan caught on TV snorting substance sparks police appeal

The Northumbria force has launched an investigation into footage taken at an event in Newcastle, which screened the round-of-16 match when Gareth Southgate’s side came from behind to beat Slovakia 2-1.


Information is being sought by police after an England supporter was caught on TV snorting a substance as he celebrated the Three Lions’ late Euro 2024 win.

The footage of the bearded fan at an open-air event in Newcastle upon Tyne, which screened the match that saw England come from behind to beat Slovakia 2-1, is being investigated by the Northumbria force.

Who else could England face in Euro 2024?

Surrounded by jubilant, dancing crowds in the city’s Times Square, the man dressed in black can be seen in the clip, shared on social media, spooning a substance up one nostril as he holds closed the other.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “We have been made aware of footage circulating on social media of a male appearing to take a substance while in Newcastle’s Times Square (on Sunday) evening.”

They added that enquiries were ongoing and asked anyone with information to contact them.
