Euro 2024: How many players are suspended for semi-finals? What are the yellow card and suspension rules? – Eurosport

Must read

Euro 2024 is nearing its climax with two mouthwatering semi-final fixtures scheduled to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, that progress has come at a cost for all four teams when it comes to team selection.

How many games will a player miss if they are sent off at Euro 2024?

Any player receiving a red card during any point of Euro 2024 will automatically be issued with a one-match ban.

However, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body could increase that punishment if it believed that the offence warranted more than the automatic suspension.

Any player sent off in the final will see their suspension carried over to the country’s next competitive match.

How many games will a player miss if they are booked at Euro 2024?

Any player who received two yellow cards before the quarter-final stage will be suspended for one match.

Also, a player will miss another match if they pick up four yellow cards ahead of the quarter-final stage.

So, if a player receives two yellow cards in the group stage, round of 16 and quarter-finals, they will be ruled out for the semi-finals, if successful.

However, any previously accumulated yellow card will be wiped out to give players a clean slate, should they get booked in the semi-final, thereby being available for the final.

A player can only be suspended for the final, if they receive a red card in the semi-finals.

Which players will miss the Euro 2024 semi-finals through suspension?

Spain duo Dani Carvajal and Robin Le Normand will miss Tuesday’s Euro 2024 semi-final against France.

Le Normand received a yellow card in the 29th minute of their quarter-final clash against Germany, meaning the Real Sociedad defender will not play in the match in Munich.

Meanwhile, Carvajal earned a yellow card in the 100th minute of that match, which would have been enough to see him miss the match.

Seemingly already knowing his fate, the Real Madrid defender received a second yellow card after illegally stopping a late German getaway.

It was initially feared that La Roja skipper Alvaro Morata would also miss the match with reports that the striker had received a second yellow for celebrating Mikel Merino’s late winner.

However, Morata later revealed to the media that he had not been booked.

What are the new disciplinary rules at Euro 2024?

UEFA has sought to crack down on any disrespect shown to the officials, with yellow cards issued to players who hound the referee.

Only the team captains will be allowed to approach the officials and debate any decisions.

If a goalkeeper has been appointed the team captain, then an outfield player can be nominated to approach the match officials.

Will any England players miss the Euro 2024 semi-finals through suspension?

No, is the answer. Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Conor Gallagher, Kobbie Mainoo and Kieran Trippier were all walking a disciplinary tightrope before the quarter-final against Switzerland on Saturday, but all remain unscathed and available for Wednesday.
