England head into this summer’s Euros aiming to go one better under Gareth Southgate – and there is great news for the Three Lions heading into the tournament in Germany
England will finally end their long wait for a trophy at this summer’s Euros – according to the latest supercomputer prediction.
The Three Lions head to Germany as one of the favourites. Should they live up to that billing, it would see England end their 58-year wait for silverware.
It would also see them lift their first ever European Championship crown. They reached the final three years ago at Wembley but lost in heartbreaking circumstances to Italy.
However, there is better news this time around. The boffins at Opta have predicted the upcoming tournament and Gareth Southgate ‘s side have the best chance of winning the trophy.
Having simulated the tournament on 10,000 occasions, England now have a 19.9% chance of tasting glory in Germany. They have a 70% chance of reaching the quarter-finals, a 48.2% chance of progressing to the semis and a 31.1% chance of going all the way to the final.
England’s strongest competition comes from France. Didier Deschamps’ side have a 19.1% chance of winning the trophy for the first time since 2000. Hosts Germany are third in line for glory and have a 12.4% chance of keeping the trophy in Berlin.
Reigning Euros champions Italy are not as fancied this time around to win the tournament. The Azzurri only have a 5% chance of lifting the trophy once again.

Away from the potential winners, supporters might have an eye out for possible surprise packages. Fellow home nation Scotland have a 1% chance of winning their first trophy ever, and a 23.5% chance of progressing from their group.
At the bottom of the standings, Georgia are not well backed to progress. They have a 0.1% chance of winning the Euros in their first-ever appearance at a major tournament, while they only have a 8.3% chance of reaching the knockout stages.
All of the nations heading to the Euros do not have much longer to prepare for the tournament. The Euros gets underway on Friday, June 14 with Germany’s clash with Scotland.
Meanwhile, England kick-off their campaign two days later against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen . Gareth Southgate has already named his provisional squad for the tournament but needs to cut a few names ahead of travelling to Germany.
Speaking after a pre-tournament friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina, boss Gareth Southgate said: “Some players needed the game, they needed the minutes and they need the minutes again on Friday.
“That’s why we brought Harry Kane on. He needed some match time today and then to back that up. We’re spinning a lot of plates trying to get individuals into things, manage minutes, perform well and everything else, but I think it was a good night for us.”
