Euro Thrash | England v Serbia preview

Euro 2024 is in full flow and already four games down with another three to come today.

Sunday sees England begin their campaign in the tournament against Serbia in Group C. The Three Lions will harbor ambitions of going all of the way in the next four weeks but take on a side with plenty of firepower in Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic.

Gareth Southgate’s squad travel to Gelsenkirchen from their remote training base of Weimarer Land Spa and Golf resort in Blankenhain. The England boss is looking forward to getting started.

“I’m excited by the challenge of trying to do something that no England team have ever done,” he said. We’ve never won a European Championship. We’ve never won a tournament away from home. We’ve never been to a final away from home.

“A lot of people seem to feel that this could be an easy procession for us. The fact that it’s never been done before highlights to me that this is going to be extremely difficult and we’ve got to be perfect to achieve it.”

Slovenia and Denmark will also look to take an early lead in the group. The former are making their first appearance at a major tournament in 14 years, but beat Portugal as recently as March.

Poland will look to progress in Group D with Robert Lewandowski leading their forward line. Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands side lie in wait first and may have greater ambitions of their own to challenge for the title of European champions.
