More Brits head to Spain than any other country for their holidays and, with a record breaking number of blue flag beaches, it’s not difficult to understand why.

It has 628 blue flag shores in total, more than any other country in the world.

The flags are handed out to the cleanest beaches at the start of the summer and are then withdrawn at the end of it.

By renewing awards in this way, those in charge of the programme hope to ensure that beaches are kept up to scratch.

Spain appears to keep on top of its beach cleaning, with diligent efforts rewarded by the huge number of blue flags found throughout the country.

Conde Nast Traveller said: “With over 600 pristine shores, Spain won a Guinness World Record in 2022 for the most Blue Flag beaches and has held the record for two consecutive years.”

Of the 600, CN put forward their favourite option for a pristine bay in Spain.

They continued: “One of the cleanest and most beautiful beaches in Spain is Burriana beach in the southern Spanish resort town of Nerja.
