Brits are fawning over an enchanting, storybook-esque country that is cheaper to fly to than ordering a takeaway…

City breaks are extremely popular in the UK due to our close proximity to a whole host of different countries. But if you’ve ticked off the classic bucket list destinations like Paris and Rome, you may be in dire need of some inspiration.

Located on the Balkan Peninsula in south-eastern Europe, Bosnia and Herzegovina has long been an overlooked holiday spot among Brits. But, viral videos of the tranquil country which show off its sheer beauty could mean that’s all about to change.

Taking to TikTok, travel influencer Nessa recently posted a video of the iconic Kravica Waterfalls – one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most famous tourist attractions. Visitors can swim in the emerald water, surrounded by several cascades that spill out from lush greenery. Just make sure you get there early if you want to beat the crowds.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is also home to the sacred Krizevac mountain, which according to legend, was where the Virgin Mary once appeared to six children to convey a message of peace and prayer.

But regardless of your beliefs, a four hike up the rocky terrain will give you some pretty impressive views. And if you’re looking for something a little more adventurous, the four-mile-long Vjetrenica Cave is a must-see. The underground marvel is filled with 15th-century tombstones at the entrance and unique rock formations.

Hundreds of travel enthusiasts flocked to the comments section to praise the destination, with many crowning it the ‘most beautiful place on Earth’. One raved: “Been here, it was absolutely magical. I’d love to visit Bosnia again.” A second added: “Bosnia is something else.” While a third dubbed the hotspot as ‘Heaven on Earth’.

You can fly directly to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital Sarajevo from Luton and Stansted. If you’re flexible with your flights, it’s possible to get a real bargain – with flights as low as £18 in October.

Also you can either stay in Sarajevo, which is a great base for those wanting to hire a car and travel around – or get a transfer to Mostar, an idyllic city renowned for its old bridge and mountainous backdrop. Accommodation in both places can vary depending on your expectations.

For example, a four-star hotel with free breakfast in Sarajevo will set you back around £100 per night (based on two adults sharing from October 1-3). A similar quality hotel in Mostar comes in just a couple of pounds cheaper for the same dates.
