A huge wave pool is opening in Scotland soon as part of a new resort. Lost Shore Surf Resort will open in September 2024 and will be around 10 minutes’ drive from Edinburgh Airport and just half an hour from Edinburgh city centre.
And inside this resort will be Europe’s biggest wave pool, making it an essential destination for any budding or pro surfer, EdinburghLive reported. The pool will be able to generate up to 1,000 waves per hour, giving even the best surfers a real challenge.
The massive pool will be the size of three football pitches, meaning it can be divided into different areas with different levels of difficulty. In the bay area of the pool, beginners will be able to learn to surf with qualified instructors.

More experienced surfers will be able to use the ‘reef’ areas of the pool, which will provide perfect waves for practising everything from trimming waves to barrels and more. But while you may come for the wave pool, stay for everything else the resort has to offer.
You can stay in a variety of accommodation options while at Lost Shore, from three and four-bedroom lodges to the striking-looking ‘Armadilla Waves and Kurves’ which sleep up to six. And for individuals and couples, ‘Pods’ are perfect little homes away from home while at the resort.
There will also be plenty of places to eat in the resort, which has partnered with Rogue Village to provide a ‘Canteen’ concept to Lost Shore. A variety of restaurants, street food vendors and independent chefs from across Scotland will rotate throughout the year to provide different cuisines to hungry surfers.
Not a surfer? There are plenty of other sports on offer, from ‘surfskating’, which replicates surfing on water on dry land. The 60-acre country park the resort is set inside also offers the opportunity for dog walks or a run, as well as lots of trails to explore.
Scottish big wave professional surfing star and Red Bull athlete, Ben Larg, added: “As a pro surfer this is incredible. Lost Shore is going to push up the level of Scottish surfing, bring so many more people to the sport, and, who knows, maybe get some Scots in the Team GB squad for the Olympics.”
How to get there from London
For Londoners looking to get away and catch some waves, it’s just a one-and-a-half hour trip from London Gatwick airport. The flight will take you to Edinburgh Airport, which is just 10 minutes from the resort by car.
