Deutsche Bahn, Germany’s national train operator, has planned short-notice strikes over the summer, making it an unpredictable transport option in time for the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship, to be held across Germany from June 14 to July 14.

Airports may also face delays and cancellations due to potential worker walkouts.

France

The 2024 Olympics in Paris may be affected by anticipated strikes and disruptions.

French air traffic controllers may go on strike, causing massive delays for flights within France and those crossing French airspace. This is because of a dispute caused by the restructuring of air traffic navigation services.

Additionally, transport workers responsible for the Métro, tram, and bus services in Paris (CGT-RATP union) are planning a strike during the Paris Olympics, making travel difficult from July 26 to August 11.

UK

Several strikes are planned in the UK this summer. Airports may face delays as the Border Force workers at Heathrow Airport have a small-scale ‘work to rule’ strike between May 3 and 18; staff will only perform the minimum required duties of their contracts. EasyJet pilots also have an ongoing dispute that may cause disruptions.

Delays on railways are also possible as the train drivers’ union (Aslef) continues their fight for better pay and working conditions (strikes may occur throughout the summer).

Italy

City transport railways and airports may have short-duration strikes planned for the summer in Italy. The next strike for the railways will take place on May 19, and taxi drivers plan a nationwide strike just a few days later.
