NEW DELHI: Four people died and several were injured after an express train collided with a freight train in the Czech Republic’s Pardubice on Wednesday, said local emergency spokesperson Alena Kisiala.
“Four passengers suffered injuries incompatible with life,” said Kisiala to the public Czech TV, revising up the toll from two dead announced earlier.
Martin Kavka, a spokesman for the Sprava zeleznic rail operator said that firefighters were still in the process of rescuing passengers from the wreckage.
The express train, which was carrying approximately 200 passengers, had departed from Prague and was en route to Kosice, a city in eastern Slovakia, when the collision occurred. The incident took place roughly 100 kilometres (60 miles) east of the Czech capital.
