France face Belgium in the Euro 2024 last 16 looking to generate momentum after a set-back in the group stage.
Failure to win Group D, thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s retaken penalty, means Didier Deschamps’ side must contend with hosts Germany, Spain and, perhaps, Portugal in the same half of the draw en route to the final in Berlin. Deschamps has a selection headache, too, with Antoine Griezmann’s involvement uncertain as Les Bleus search for the right balance in the line-up.
And they face a Belgian side with similar doubts and problems after a tough group stage of their own, settling for second in Group E behind Romania following an uninspiring draw with Ukraine, which saw Kevin De Bruyne and other players clash with their own supporters at full-time.

France vs Belgium prediction
Belgium have the weapons to hurt France, but it really hasn’t clicked for them and the French defence has been impressive so far. Up front, France have struggled at times, but Kylian Mbappe and co. will have enough to get past a weak Belgian backline.

The curious case of Antoine Griezmann and France’s biggest decision of Euro 2024
If Antoine Griezmann has been obscured, it is for different reasons. If Mbappe’s return formed one notable detail on the teamsheet for the Poland draw, an absentee was perhaps still more significant. For the first time in a tournament game since 2016 when there was something at stake, Griezmann did not start for France.
He has been the great constant: the footballer who played in a world record 84 consecutive games for his country. His tally of 132 caps is rare: rarer still is that they have all come for the same manager. Griezmann and Didier Deschamps formed a double act that has underpinned the French era of supremacy and consistency.
