Italy, currently holding the G7 presidency, has arranged a virtual meeting of G7 leaders on Sunday to address Iran’s recent attack on Israel.

The attack, a response to a suspected Israeli air strike on Iran’s embassy compound in Damascus earlier this month, has escalated tensions in the region. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed concern over the situation, emphasizing the need to prevent further destabilization.

The G7 discussion is set for early afternoon European time, as stated by the Italian government. US President Joe Biden has promised a united diplomatic response from the G7 to the drone and missile assault, denouncing the incident.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani urged caution from the Israeli government in its reaction, hoping to avoid a cycle of retaliation. The G7 comprises the United States, Canada, Italy, Britain, France, Germany, and Japan.

Foreign ministers of these nations are slated to convene on the Italian island of Capri from April 17-19.
