Kenyan national team captain Michael Olunga is to touch down in Austria.
Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga will return to Austria for pre-season with his club Al Duhail.
The Qatari side camped in Austria before the start of last season and will be going back to the European country again to prepare for the new campaign.
“The team preparations have begun in preparation for the new football season, which will kick off with the Ooredoo Stars League competitions next month,” Al Duhail said on its website.
Harambee Stars captain Michale Olunga returned to club duties with Al Duhail in preparation for the new season amid speculation over where his future lies.
“The team training will continue during the coming period with a focus on raising fitness levels before entering technical training and heading to the external camp, which will be in Austria.”
Al Duhail will camp in Austria from July 12 to August 1 and play a number of friendly matches.
Olunga joined the rest of his team-mates as pre-season training began on Monday.
Al Duhail did not have a fruitful 2023-24 campaign as they endured a trophyless season and finished sixth in the league, failing to defend their title.
The Kenyan international will be hoping for some good tidings in the upcoming season with Al Duhail keen to regain their place at the top.
Despite the bad season, Olunga continued to bang in the goals as he ended the season with 28 goals and three assists across all competitions, with his last strike coming in the Emir Cup quarter-final against Al Arabi, when he scored a brace, before his side’s elimination in the semi-final by Al Sadd.
Olunga has enjoyed a fruitful spell in Doha, scoring 109 goals in 108 games in all competitions, while winning the Golden Boot award back-to-back in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
