Iberia continues to grow its Latin American network, and will offer a total of 5.3 million seats to and from the region in 2024.
This figure is up 16 per cent on the 4.6 million in 2023, and more than 20 per cent up on pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
The carrier will operate more than 320 weekly flights between Europe and Latin America in 2024, with routes to Argentina, Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico seeing the largest capacity increases.
Iberia will fly three times daily between Spain and Argentina this summer, a 50 per cent increase on the previous winter season, and this winter the airline will operate twice daily frequencies to Sao Paulo, up from the current 11 flights per week.
The Madrid-Bogota route will see thrice-daily frequencies throughout the year, while flights to Peru now stand at 13 per week.
Montevideo will also see record capacity in 2024 with daily flights throughout the year, and there will be an additional frequency on the carrier’s Santiago de Chile services between June and September, taking the route to 11 weekly flights.
And Puerto Rico is also seeing a significant increase in capacity compared to last year, with daily services during most months of the year.
The news comes as TAP Air Portugal this month announced plans for a new route between Lisbon and Florianópolis.
Europe’s only nonstop services to the Brazilian coastal city will launch on 12 September, becoming TAP’s 12th Brazilian destination, joining routes to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belém, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Fortaleza, Natal, Maceió, Porto Alegre, Recife and Salvador.
In total the carrier will operate 95 weekly flights between Lisbon and Brazil this summer, with an average of more than 13 flights per day.
