IHG to open four new hotels in Spain

IHG Hotels and Resorts is expanding its portfolio in Spain following the signing of four new hotels across three brands in what the company describes as one of its “priority growth markets in Europe”.

The group plans to open the 130-room Holiday Inn Express & Suites Sabadell in late 2025, marking its first “& suites” offering in Spain. The property includes 20 extended-stay suites, a restaurant, meeting rooms, fitness centre and an outdoor swimming pool and is within a 25-minute drive to Barcelona, according to the company.

Meanwhile, a 148-room Holiday Inn Express is set to open in Seville in spring 2026. The hotel includes a fitness area, rooftop terrace and swimming pool and is located between the city centre and Seville’s international airport.

A new 167-room voco property in Granada is also scheduled to open in 2026, marking IHG’s debut in the city and the second voco property in Spain, alongside a new 82-room Hotel Indigo in Jerez de la Frontera. The latter will open in partnership with Senator Hotels & Reorts and will combine two building, Plaza Arenal an Calle Larga, with amenities such as a restaurant, two bars, a terrace and a rooftop pool.

“We are thrilled to expand our presence in Spain with these four outstanding properties in key tourist and business destinations across the country,” said Willemijn Geels, vice president, development, Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts.

“The addition of over 500 rooms in Spain, alongside the recently announced 1,000 rooms in Portugal, will contribute a 10 per cent increase in our room count across Iberia, emphasising our commitment to growth in the region,” she said.

The move follows IHG’s planned expansion in Portugal, where group is looking to open nine hotels by 2026.

IHG currently operates 55 hotels in Spain across eight brands, including Six Senses, InterContinental, Kimpton, Hotel Indigo, voco, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn Express, and Holiday Inn.
