We can tell you all about a destination that’s causing a buzz online at the moment. It’s been branded the ‘Hawaii of Europe’ due to its lush landscapes and gorgeous beaches – and the best part is it’s often much cheaper to travel there than it is to jet off to the US.
The location in question is Madeira, an autonomous region of Portugal. It is a group of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean, known for its rich culture, picturesque scenery, and mild climate.
Travel enthusiast Sophie, known as Small Gal Big World online, recently went on a trip to Madeira. She loved it – and compared its relaxed vibe to the Aloha State.
In a TikTok post, she wrote: “Dreaming of an island getaway – the Hawaii of Europe”. She then went on to show clips of crystal blue water, beautiful flora, cobbled streets and cliffsides.
Scores of viewers flocked to the comments section to praise the destination – with one person branding the island “stunning”. Another agreed, commenting: “My parents have a house on Madeira and I always see dolphins outside my window.”
A third added: “Portugal is awesome,” while a fourth simply wrote: “Magical place.”
Madiera is a popular choice for globe-trotters due to its natural beauty. The islands boast diverse and beautiful landscapes, from lush green mountains and forests to dramatic cliffs and pebbled beaches.
As well as this, its unique Laurisilva forest is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Hikers often flock to this spot – and also enjoy walking through the extensive network of levadas in Madeira too.
Meanwhile, the more adventurous among us may wish to partake in adventure or sporting activities like mountain biking, canyoning, scuba diving, and paragliding.
For those looking to kick back and relax in the sunshine, they’re in luck. Madeira has a subtropical climate with mild temperatures year-round, making it a perfect destination for those seeking a temperate getaway.
They can kick back in the many spas on the islands or enjoy an array of culinary experiences. Madeira offers a rich foodie tradition, including its famous Madeira wine, exotic fruits, and local dishes like espetada (grilled meat skewers) and bolo do caco (traditional bread). What’s not to like!
