Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham were tipped to be two of England’s leading lights at the Euros but both men have copped criticism for not hitting their usual levels
Dietmar Hamann has singled out England duo Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham for criticism as he claimed the Real Madrid man thinks “he’s the greatest in that team.”
The pair have helped the Three Lions progress to the final of Euro 2024, where they will meet Spain. Neither player has had the tournament they would’ve wanted with Kane and Bellingham both struggling to replicate their club form on the international stage.
Kane has looked fatigued whilst Bellingham, after claiming Champions League glory, has only had the odd moment where he’s stood up – one of those coming notably in the last 16 against Slovakia to spare English blushes.
The Bayern Munich star has struggled, partly due to an attack that has misfired. Hamman though believes Kane should’ve identified issues and make an effort to tweak them or produce some individual quality – but doesn’t believe he’s capable of doing so.
He told TopOffshoreSportsBooks : “I don’t know what the problem is, or maybe he’s just tired. Maybe he’s at an age now where maybe he needs longer between games because he turns 31 after the Euros, but so far you’ve got to say it’s disappointing.
“But at the same time, maybe he needs to make things happen. If he sees things aren’t going to change, he needs to do something about it. But he’s I don’t think he’s capable of doing that at the moment.”
Kane has scored three times for England thus far, including the winner in the last 16 against Slovakia as well as the equaliser from the spot against the Dutch on Wednesday night. Bellingham has scored just the once and he’s found himself in Hamann’s firing line, who criticised his celebration whilst also claiming the midfielder was largely anonymous in Real’s European success.
He said: “Jude Bellingham, at the moment, is going down the wrong route. If you look at some of the comments he has made, including about the referee in Germany when he got away with a fine when he should’ve been banned. There’s a lot of things he said or he’s done which I don’t like.
“He scores the last-minute goal against Slovakia and he stands there saying: ‘Who else?’ Now I’d like to know what all his teammates think because there’s 10 players next to him who are top class players in their own right.”
Hamann also added: “He had a good first half of the season at Real Madrid. But in the quarter-final, semi-final and the final of the Champions League he was nowhere to be seen. They won the Champions League because of Andriy Lunin, because of Toni Kroos, because of Vini Junior, because of Rodrygo – not because of Bellingham.”
