Liverpool named Europe’s most popular club beating Man Utd, Arsenal and Man City

There will always be a debate in the Premier League regarding who is the biggest club. Of course, many different factors play into it – but the latest data suggests that on a global level, Liverpool is currently the team to beat.

Of course, it’s hard to get away from Manchester City’s recent success, Arsenal’s resurgence or Manchester United’s history – but even in a year where things didn’t go entirely to plan, Liverpool usurps them all in terms of viewers tuning in. The latest TV data from the 2023/24 season shows that Liverpool was ahead of not just all their Premier League rivals, but all clubs in European football – including the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Bayern Munich – as the most popular with TV viewers.

According to Nielsen Sports data, shared by Liverpool FC’s VP of Communications Craig Evans on social media, the club was the most-watched European football club globally across domestic league and cup fixtures. Between August 2023 and March 2024, Liverpool attracted a cumulative global TV audience of 415 million, more than any of its rivals.

What is even more impressive is that those numbers came while the club was not competing in the Champions League. It is a clear sign of not just the global pull of the Premier League, but also the fact that amongst England’s top clubs, Liverpool remains the biggest draw at this moment in time.

While Liverpool has a particularly special connection to its city, that has also helped harness it into a global superpower. Outgoing manager Jürgen Klopp touched on that fact while he was in charge, admitting it was when travelling overseas he would realize the true size of Liverpool FC.

“I really think there’s a Liverpool way,” said Klopp earlier this year. “When you win one time with Liverpool, it is worth as much as five with another club.

“To experience a good moment is really good. To experience a good moment with a lot of people together is a completely different level, and the same is with the bad moments. So that is really special.
