One Liverpool city centre restaurant has been named among the best places to eat in Europe.
Opinionated About Dining’s best cheap eats for Europe list for 2024, has given Liverpool’s Mowgli, on Water Street, an honourable mention. Only 25 restaurants in the whole of the United Kingdom have been listed and the Indian street food restaurant is one of them.
Other European restaurants on the prestigious list include Tim Wendelboe in Oslo, Hart Bageri in Copenhagen and Pasties de Belem in Lisbon. Mowgli was first opened on Bold Street in 2014 by renowned chef Nisha Katona and it swiftly became one of the city centre’s most popular food and drink spots.

With a drop in system initially in place, the restaurant became so busy and wait times so long, that Nisha made the decision to open a second Liverpool city centre venue on Water Street in 2016. Mowgli’s set menu is £25 per person, based on two sharing, and includes small plates such as Himalayan cheese toast, a four tier tiffin box, flatbread and desserts including chocolate brownie.
There’s also a vegan, gluten free menu and a standard main menu which features dishes such as the delicious yoghurt chat bombs, gunpowder chicken and goan fish curry. Last year, Mowgli on Water Street was temporarily closed for a revamp but it is now reopen for customers.
OAD’s Top Restaurant’s in Europe list also includes Moor Hall in Aughton. While the Casual Dining list features The Barn which is the sister site of Moor Hall.
Opinionated About Dining states that it’s the only dining survey that factors experience into its rating system. For example, their 2019 results were based on over 200,000 reviews contributed by more than 6,000 people who registered for the survey. Their dining survey data powers OAD annual Lists, Region Guides and travel information.
