Monday’s Football Tips: England start the countdown to Euro 2024 with friendly against Bosnia

Must read

EURO 2024 is looming large with the big kick-off less than two weeks away and England will be looking to boost morale with a friendly win over Bosnia at St James’ Park tonight.

Gareth Southgate’s men had a brilliant chance to win the last Euros on home soil three years ago but blew it as they lost on penalties to Italy in the Wembley showpiece.

But the squad they will take to Germany this summer looks even more talented and the English will be out to show why they’re one of the favourites for the tournament when they take on Bosnia.

The Bosnians haven’t qualified for the Euros and having nothing to play for so this should be a routine win for England in the first of two warm-up games for the finals.

England vs Bosnia Top Betting Tips

One of the biggest dilemmas facing Southgate this summer is trying to fit the world-class talents of Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham into the same line-up while getting the best out of both players.

They’re most effective when playing in the No.10 role but Foden has often found himself shifted out to the wings. The Manchester City star might get the chance to play more centrally tonight though as Bellingham won’t play after starring for Real Madrid in Saturday’s Champions League Final.

Foden is 13/10 with Bet365 for anytime scorer and that looks good value based on his club form. He’s also 5/2 for an assist if you’re looking for bigger odds.

Harry Kane missed the last couple of Bayern Munich games with a back injury and Southgate has confirmed he won’t start against Bosnia.

Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins is the most likely deputy and he’s 11/10 for a goal, which looks a good price if he starts.

Gibraltar vs Scotland Top Tips

Scotland need a morale-boosting win ahead of the Euros after going seven matches without a victory and it would be a massive surprise if it didn’t come tonight against Gibraltar.

The main reason for Scotland’s poor run has been the standard of opposition, with Steve Clarke’s side taking on the likes of Spain, England, France and the Netherlands.

A home defeat by Northern Ireland last time out was more worrying but the Scots should get back on track against the minnows of Gibraltar.

Scotland have scored five goals in each of the previous two meetings and backing over 4.5 match goals tonight pays evens.

Most of Steve Clarke’s forwards are odds-on for a goal but Ryan Christie is 13/8 and that looks good value as he usually plays just off the striker for Scotland.

For a long-odds punt, strikers Che Adams and Lawrence Shankland are both 8/1 to net with a header. It might be best waiting to see who starts out of those two before placing the bet.

Germany vs Ukraine Top Tips

Euro 2024 hosts Germany face Scotland in the tournament opener and they will be looking to put on a show against Ukraine tonight in Nuremburg.

Since Julian Nagelsmann took charge, the Germans have found some form again and hopes are high of glory this summer after friendly wins over France and the Netherlands.

Ukraine aren’t in the same class as either of those two opponents so this should be a comfortable win for Germany. Backing them to be leading at half-time and full-time pays a decent 11/10.

Florian Wirtz has been the standout player of a Bayer Leverkusen side that has just completed a domestic double without losing a game. The kid will be on a high and he’s 15/8 for anytime scorer tonight.
