Years of negotiations have finally come to a fruitful conclusion as a major new railway line linking East Asia and Southern Europe has been given the green signal.
The agreement was signed between China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, Express reported.
The railway line will be 523km long, out of which 213km will run through China, 260km, through Kyrgyzstan and 50km through Uzbekistan.
The agreement also includes the construction of more than 50 tunnels and 90 bridges in Kyrgyzstan.
The project is estimated to cost around six million pounds.
Once the building of the new railway line is complete, it will cut down the travel route from Asia to Southern Europe by 900 km. It will save one week of delivery time, as well as increase the cargo storage.
In the future, the project will be extended to Western and Southern Asia.
Uzbekistan’s president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has hailed the signing of the event as a “historically significant” event.
He said, “This China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway will be the shortest ground ‘shoulder’ connecting China with our region.”
“In the future, this route will make it possible to exit through the promising Trans-Afghan corridor to the markets of the South Asian and Middle Eastern countries.”
