It’s now exactly 50 days until Newcastle United get their 2024-25 season under way against Southampton at St James’ Park. A lot f water will flow under the Tyne Bridge before then, of course, with some big transfer decisions to make before the campaign kicks-off.
There will still be a fortnight of trading to go after the season begins, but Eddie Howe will want the majority of his squad decided as early as possible. United are aiming to kick on again in the coming months after the disappointment of missing out on European football back in May.
It looked as though a seventh-place finished was going to be enough to bring a Europa Conference League spot until Manchester United spoiled the party by beating rivals Man City in the FA Cup final to take that final spot at Newcastle’s expense. Without the demands of Champions League football and with some better luck on the injury front, Howe and Co will be aiming to break into the top six, or higher this time around.

Predictions are already being made, of course, from bookies’ odds to ‘supercomputers’ and the latest AI predictions make for interesting reading for Newcastle. The number-crunchers at FairBettingSites have come up with their predcitions for the coming season – with mixed news for the Magpies.
Their stats see Newcastle finish seventh again – but this time it will be good enough to clinch a European place, with domestic cups also predicted. United will better last season’s points tallly, according to the AI, but will finish behind Spurs in sixth and Arsenal in fifth.
They’ve even similated the cup draws, with Newcastle losing to Manchester United TWICE – in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and the sem-final of the Carabao Cup. One standout stat is Alexander Isak’s goal tally, with the Swede prediction to smash a stunning 32 goals next term.
Elsewhere, it’s another title celebration for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, with Liverpool second, Chelsea third and Man United fourth. Aston Villa are well off the pace in eighth, with Ipswich, Bournemouth and Southampton for the drop.

Head of news at FairBettingSites, Lee Astley, said: “Another seventh place finish will come as a disappointment to Newcastle fans, after finishing in the top four in the 2022-23 Premier League campaign – but the AI predicting a return to Europe will be welcomed at St James Park.
“Performances in the various cup competitions are below par once again, which begs the question over Eddie Howe being the man to bring silverware to Tyneside. A standout stat from the AI is the goal scoring output from Alexander Isak, as finding the net 32 times will cement his place as one of the best strikers in Europe.”
