Jobless claims: New applications for unemployment aid, a proxy for lay-offs, are expected to have risen to 218,000 last week, up from a one-month low of 212,000 in the prior seven-day period.

US economic data: The annualised rate of existing home sales is expected to have ticked higher in January, after falling in December to its lowest level in almost 30 years. Meanwhile, S&P Global will release its purchasing managers’ indices for manufacturing and services, with February readings expected to dip slightly from January levels.

Fedspeak: Philip Jefferson, the Federal Reserve’s vice chair, will speak about the US economic outlook and monetary policy at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington. Fed Governor Lisa Cook will give a speech on economic uncertainty at a conference held at Princeton University. Former Fed chair Ben Bernanke will appear at the same conference. Fed Governor Christopher Waller will give a speech on the economic outlook at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis.
