Ludhiana: A tip-off about delivery of Rs 30 crore cash in city-based hotel Park Plaza at Bhai Bala Chowk led to raids late on on Friday night. The search, conducted by teams of the Income Tax department (IT), Enforcement Directorate (ED), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Election Commission of India (ECI) continued till 3.30am on Saturday. The agencies had information about the possible connection of the cash with the general elections. Incidentally, the hotel is owned by Congress leader Jassi Khangura, who was previously associated with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).The teams from Delhi were accompanied by officials from Ludhiana and Jalandhar, who searched the entire hotel but found nothing and went back. An official told TOI, “The Delhi-based agencies got some information that a political worker had delivered Rs 30 crore cash at a hotel which belongs to a Congress leader. Acting on the information, Delhi-based agencies reached Ludhiana and informed the local team. A search was conducted overnight but nothing was found.”When contacted, Jassi Khangura said, “I was not present at the hotel, however, my manager informed me about the search. The staff cooperated with the officials.”On asking if he suspected the search to be politically motivated, Khangura said, “The election commission must have acted on some complaint which could be politically motivated.”
